10 Ways to Reach Your Entrepreneurial Goals

When it comes to the concept of flourishing, let alone surviving this tough economy, do you see the glass half empty or half full? Do you look to the future and see troubled times or growing opportunity. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit that can't be suppressed despite economic concerns, you're not alone. But before you venture forth with your plans, be sure you truly comprehend your own business model, company objectives, personal requirements, and other crucial elements of entrepreneurship. Having a clear picture of these elements will only help you prosper down the line.

Last month, a writer with New York Entrepreneur Week shared 10 Tips to Starting a Business in This Economy– take a few moments to review the tips and ask yourself: are you, as an entrepreneur, achieving these principles?

   1) "Your Idea Must be Fresh and Innovative." It's sometimes difficult to create a revolutionary product, pitch or service. The good news is you don't have to. So long as what you plan to provide to consumers can be considered of value to them, you're in the clear.

   2) "Your Idea Must Compel the Customer to Spend." One of the hardest obstacles to overcome in this tough economy is actually convincing people to shell out money for your goods. You can make the decision easier for them if you prove you're worthy buying from, or that your products or services are invaluable to consumers.

   3) "You Must Have an Executable Plan with Clear Objectives." The only thing more important than the actual value of your products or services is having a comprehensive plan detailing what you plan to do with them. Do your research; compile documents that examine your company objectives, mission statements, marketing techniques, expense predictions, and things of that nature. It's the only way you'll truly be able to track your progress.

   4) "You Must Be a Watch Dog on Costs and Expenses." Make sure your plans don't exceed your budgets. Don't get nonchalant with incentives such as clearances and promotions unless you're positive you can make good on them and still come out on top with some sort of profit.

   5) "You Must Be Prepared to Sell." Unless you're a celebrity or selling an irresistible product or service, you're going to need a little help in the sales and marketing department. There are thousands of entrepreneurial resources you can turn to when it comes to brushing up on your salesperson tactics and techniques. Don't be afraid to use them!

   6) "Put Your Customer Ahead of Yourself." This can be another difficult obstacle to overcome, but it's more of a mental block. No matter what, you have to remember that as an entrepreneur, you need customers in order to succeed. By going above and beyond for your consumers, both potential and existing, you're showing them that you're dedicated to customer satisfaction and worth buying from.

   7) "Don't Go It Alone; Ask For Help." You're not stuck in a vacuum, so don't be afraid to reach out to others if you need help. Entrepreneurial books and tools are great, but they only go so far. If you need support, encouragement or aid, all you have to do is ask.

   8) "Use Leverage to Grow." Leveraging powerful resources, such as big–name contacts and popular marketing platforms, is a great way to propel your business and generate awareness about your entrepreneurship. These resources are at your disposal – take advantage of them but be sure to give credit where credit is due.

   9) "Harness Technology and Social Media." Social media platforms, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn, have grown tremendously in recent years. They are no longer strictly tools for communication between friends and family; they now serve as public forums where consumers can interact with each other, and where entrepreneurs can tap into their target demographics' conversations in a cost–effective approach.

   10) "Never Give Up, Never Surrender." One of the most distinguishing characteristics of entrepreneurs is their determination. As an entrepreneur, you can never give up on yourself, your business objectives, or your team. The only way to conquer the economic downturn is to strive forward, armed with the tools and knowledge outlined in these ten steps.
